Aesthetics in German History

The Cambridge German History Research Group invites proposals for papers (20–30 minutes) on the subject of aesthetics in German history. Presentations will form part of an online events series between 12 May and 23 June 2022. Applications are open to all universities and disciplines. We welcome applications that engage with aesthetics in any aspect and period. We are interested, for example, in the theory and philosophy of aesthetics, or in the role that aesthetics has played in shaping German politics. We encourage scholars working with a variety of media and sources, such as music, literature, painting, architecture, urban planning, and popular culture. We also encourage speakers to think broadly and boldly about the historical relevance of aesthetics, or about the ways in which aesthetics relates to material, cultural or intellectual developments in German history.

Please send your abstract (max. 300 words), together with a short paragraph summarising your CV, institutional affiliation and research interests, to germanhistoryworkshop@gmail.com by 19 April 2022.

The Cambridge German History Research Group is an online seminar series that brings together scholars working on German history, offering them an opportunity to broaden their network, present their research and exchange ideas. It is funded by the DAAD Cambridge Hub.
